The Da Vinci Code Part 7— Was Jesus Married?
1. T/F Ignoring the fact that Renaissance artists often painted young men with apparently feminine qualities, Dan Brown says Leonardo Da Vinci actually painted Mary Magdalene into his famous painting The Last Supper taking the place of the youngest apostle John. (The Da Vinci Code: Dan Brown, 243–245)
2. T/F Leaving additional clues to the identity of Mary Magdalene in other famous pieces of art, most notably Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Brown not only claims Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married, but also that “According to Jewish custom, celibacy was condemned.” (The Da Vinci Code: Dan Brown, 245)
3. The ____________________ Scrolls were found in 1945 in sealed ceramic jars in some desert caves in southern Egypt called Nag Hammadi 5 years before the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
4. Dan Brown believes these ___________________________ (non–Biblical) books are “...the earliest Christian records” (The Da Vinci Code: Dan Brown, 245) and that they “Do not match up with the gospels in the Bible.” (The Da Vinci Code: Dan Brown, 245–246)
5. Dan Brown says the word _______________________ in the first and second centuries literally meant “spouse” (The Da Vinci Code: Dan Brown, 246).
6. T/F According to the gnostic Gospel of Philip, “The companion of the Savior is Mary Magdalene. Christ loved her more than all the disciples and used to kiss her often on her mouth. The rest of the disciples were offended by it and expressed disapproval. They said to him, ‘Why do you love her more than all of us?’” (The Gospel of Philip as quoted in The Da Vinci Code: Dan Brown, 246)
7. Dan Brown says ___________________ was jealous of Mary because “According to these unaltered gospels [the Nag Hammadi Texts/Gnostic Gospels], it was not Peter to whom Christ gave directions with which to establish the Church. It was Mary Magdalene.” (The Da Vinci Code: Dan Brown, 248)
8. T/F We have genealogical proof from the Bible that Mary Magdalene was from the tribe of Benjamin and was “Of royal descent.” (The Da Vinci Code: Dan Brown, 248)
9. T/F Seventh–day Adventists and many Roman Catholics teach that Mary Magdalene is the same person as John 11’s Mary of Bethany and Luke 8’s Unnamed Woman but do so for different reasons.
10. According to Matthew 16:21 and 19:12, what are 2 reasons why Jesus would not have married?
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
11. T/F According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, the word “spouse” first began being used in the 13th century.
12. God made no special arrangements to circumvent the curse of ________________ (1 Samuel 13:13) as He did for the curse of Jeconiah (Jeremiah 22:30).
13. T/F The gnostic Gospel of Mary Magdalene was found in 1896 by a German scholar at a Cario Egyptian bazaar.
14. T/F By quoting The Gospel of Mary Magdalene, Dan Brown obviously believes her book written after the completed New Testament between 150–200 AD is more credible than the nearly 25,000 New Testament manuscripts even though only two partial copies—one 3rd century Greek fragment and a longer 5th century translation into Coptic—have survived.
15. Jesus was brilliant, fearless, compassionate, unpredictable, but ____________________ by the vast majority of those who knew of Him. But like Mary Magdalene, you don’t have to be one of them.
16. Y/N Will you ask Jesus to be your Savior and Lord of your time, talents, treasure, and temple?
