NEW CONGREGATION, NEW BUILDING...[R. Elofer/TED News]
Tel Aviv, Israel - Sabbath 7 July was a very special Shabbat for the
Seventh-day Adventists in Israel. Janos Kovacs-Biro, Trans-European
Division Church Planting and Evangelism Director, along with Richard
Elofer, President of the Church in Israel, led out in the dedication
of a new congregation in their new building in Tel Aviv.
More than one hundred people were present for this dedication. Pastor
Elofer commented, "It is a pleasure to see our congregations growing
in Israel. Our six pastors and six volunteers are working hard to
give Bible studies, to train new leaders, planting and dedicating new
congregations. We praise the Almighty for his blessings and we urge
everyone to pray for our work in Israel."
The Seventh-day Adventists in Israel number 1,200 members, divided
between thirty-one groups and churches.
INTERNET EVANGELISM INITIATIVES...[BUC News/TED News Staff/TED News]
Bracknell, England - "The best evangelism is the evangelism you are
doing," Pastor Finley told a packed congregation at Newbold church on
Sabbath, 30 June. "The evangelism you are not doing will not reach
anyone."
Starting on Thursday, 28 June, church members and ministers from five
continents of the world including Africa, the Americas, Austria and
Europe were among the participants. The emphasis to the one hundred
or so participants of the Global Internet Evangelism Network (GIEN)
that were part of the congregation was to put the theme of their
conference into action. "Radical Method, Radical Message, Radical
Christ."
In the key-note address Raafat Kamal, Field Secretary, Global Mission
and Stewardship director of the Trans-European Division stated that
"The Internet is the only mass medium whose audience share has grown
during the past decade. The proportion of the population using the
Internet for faith purposes has increased by two-thirds since 1998.
And he continued
"According to the Gospel of Mark (Mark 16:15), I believe we are
commissioned to go into all the world and preach, teach, publish,
translate, broadcast, chat, Skype, download, upload, text, and blog
the Good News to all mankind. I think Jesus would include every
modern means of communication to bring the good news of salvation to
the world."
Through the week plenary sessions, practical workshops, and division
reports stimulated creative thought and imaginative ways of
communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Opportunities and
challenges of using the new technology were discussed, including a
look at Cyber-ethics, Cultural Globalisation, and a review of
Internet Outreach projects.
Danny Houghten, Executive Vice-President of TAGnet, emphasised a
positive principle for using the net. In designing net outreach tools
he quoted Albert Einstein, "Everything should be made as simple as
possible but not simpler." Danny is part of the NetAdventist team
that are developing content managed websites for local churches, a
format that is already being tested in the UK and Ireland.
NetAdventist has recently been launched with all churches in
Australia and the South Pacific.
"It was exciting to meet so many people enthusiastic about using the
Internet for God," BUC web and IT specialist, Yunuen Carrillo stated,
"I now have so many good ideas for the church."
Reports and downloads of various presentations are available from the
GIEN website: www.gien.adventist.org.
