Order of the British Empire (OBE) Awarded to ADRA UK Board MemberLondon, England—Joan Saddler, who serves on the board for the Adventist Development and Relief Agency www.adra.org/ (ADRA) in the United Kingdom, received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) from Queen Elizabeth II on December 6 during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. The award recognized Saddler’s promotion of equality and diversity in healthcare, volunteer service, and for her work with ADRA. The award was created by King George V in 1917 and is the order of chivalry of British democracy. “Valuable service is the only criterion for the award,” states the Buckingham Palace Web site. Only 240 people a year receive the award out of a population of 61 million. Saddler is the second person with connections to ADRA to receive the order in the last two years. In 2006, John Arthur, former director of ADRA in Trans-Europe, received the OBE for his nearly four decades of outstanding humanitarian service, including his efforts in Albania, Sarajevo, and Kosovo. Saddler has served for years in the voluntary sector mentoring ethnic minorities and publicizing healthcare information for citizens. In 2003 she became chair of Waltham Forest PCT, which subsequently became the first organization to publish performance evaluations for every general practitioner in the local newspaper. Saddler has served on committees for a range of local and regional agencies and is a member of the ADRA UK board. In 1998 she developed a mentoring program for black women managers in Islington. Saddler founded Direct Consultancy, which provides research and capacity building programs for Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities, and is a founding member of the Haringey Women’s Forum, an advice and information service. She jointly proposed and is co-chair of the National Health Service BME Leadership Forum, which mentors 75 BME leaders in influencing the NHS health and social care policy. -END- Source: Adventist News Network</ br> Author: Richard de Lisser/ANN Staff/ADRA International Media Contact: Kara Watkins ADRA International 12501 Old Columbia Pike Silver Spring, MD 20904 Phone: 301.680.6357 Mobile: 301.526.2625 E-mail: Media.Inquiries@adra.org |

Paulsen asked pastors to trust young men and women who show spiritual maturity, elect them as elders and not wait until they are 50 years old. Carlton P. Byrd, a pastor from Atlanta, Georgia, brought up the challenge of conducting evangelism at local churches, sometimes with insufficient funds. "Salvation is free, but ministry takes money," he said. Paulsen responded by describing the church's tithing commission, a group of more than 100 members from around the world meeting to examine the church's use of funds. He said he didn't want to guess what the commission was trying to do, but suggested the group was considering channeling more funds to local churches. Paulsen urged patience in waiting for their report which he said would be presented in October, 2009.Source/Story: http://www.AdventistReview.org/article.php?id=1409 Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security_and_Prosperity Partnership_of_North_America United States of AT&T DateLine: September 17, 2007 http://www.FreePress.net/Source/Story: http://www.FreePress.net/news/26187 Well today, one of AT&T’s former key attorneys, Peter Keisler, just took over the Department of Justice. The New Reformation is about freeing God’s people from church institution and decentralizing ministry from the church building to the community. Church members are no longer willing to have some clergyman script their personal ministry journey. The church is to be closer to the world and not aloof from it but not of it. God wanted them to expand the kingdom. Now the expansion of the kingdom is not building buildings, it is taking the gospel to a dying world and becoming a partner with God in redeeming fallen sinners from their lost condition. But it has instead grown to look at the church as a clubhouse where religious people hang out with other people who think, dress, eat, vote, believe, and behave like them. Most Christians were led to believe they would experience an abundant life. -- One that would be filled with adventure. A life that would give them the thrill of helping people find their way into God’s Kingdom. Instead, they have been brought into church captivity, only to do what’s good for the club, not having much of an impact on the lost souls in the community at all. This was not what they were promised. Where is the abundant life? Where is the thrill of winning others to Christ? Where is that joy-filled abundant life that I was told I would have when I gave my life to Jesus? Like a lifeboat station that was established on the coastline to rescue perishing sinners, this perishing sinner ministry has become a country club, where we no longer brave the waters and launch out into the sea to save drowning sinners. Do we sometimes forget that the church was established in the first place for the purpose of rescuing people: our brothers and sisters, our neighbors and friends, the people we work with, the people we shop with? If we are going to be a twenty-first century church that is relevant and missional in its outlook we must create a whole new mental landscape. Have our church members ever really experienced what missional living is all about or are they just experiencing Church? The headlines herald... "War in the Middle East" Clean Clothes New __________________________________ The Arrival of the Son of Man - Jesus Christ - on Earth! His second coming will not be a secret. Every eye shall see Him! There will not be a private quiet secret resurrection!Matthew 24:23-51 The Message Bible The Arrival of the Son of Man 23-25"If anyone tries to flag you down, calling out, 'Here's the Messiah!' or points, 'There he is!' don't fall for it. Fake Messiahs and lying preachers are going to pop up everywhere. Their impressive credentials and dazzling performances will pull the wool over the eyes of even those who ought to know better. But I've given you fair warning. 26-28"So if they say, 'Run to the country and see him arrive!' or, 'Quick, get downtown, see him come!' don't give them the time of day. The Arrival of the Son of Man isn't something you go to see. He comes like swift lightning to you! Whenever you see crowds gathering, think of carrion vultures circling, moving in, hovering over a rotting carcass. You can be quite sure that it's not the living Son of Man pulling in those crowds. 29"Following those hard times,
Sun will fade out, moon cloud over, Stars fall out of the sky, cosmic powers tremble. 30-31"Then, the Arrival of the Son of Man! It will fill the skies—no one will miss it. Unready people all over the world, outsiders to the splendor and power, will raise a huge lament as they watch the Son of Man blazing out of heaven. At that same moment, he'll dispatch his angels with a trumpet-blast summons, pulling in God's chosen from the four winds, from pole to pole. 32-35"Take a lesson from the fig tree. From the moment you notice its buds form, the merest hint of green, you know summer's just around the corner. So it is with you: When you see all these things, you'll know he's at the door. Don't take this lightly. I'm not just saying this for some future generation, but for all of you. This age continues until all these things take place. Sky and earth will wear out; my words won't wear out. 36"But the exact day and hour? No one knows that, not even heaven's angels, not even the Son. Only the Father knows. 37-39"The Arrival of the Son of Man will take place in times like Noah's. Before the great flood everyone was carrying on as usual, having a good time right up to the day Noah boarded the ark. They knew nothing—until the flood hit and swept everything away. 39-44"The Son of Man's Arrival will be like that: Two men will be working in the field—one will be taken, one left behind; two women will be grinding at the mill—one will be taken, one left behind. So stay awake, alert. You have no idea what day your Master will show up. But you do know this: You know that if the homeowner had known what time of night the burglar would arrive, he would have been there with his dogs to prevent the break-in. Be vigilant just like that. You have no idea when the Son of Man is going to show up. 45-47"Who here qualifies for the job of overseeing the kitchen? A person the Master can depend on to feed the workers on time each day. Someone the Master can drop in on unannounced and always find him doing his job. A God-blessed man or woman, I tell you. It won't be long before the Master will put this person in charge of the whole operation. 48-51"But if that person only looks out for himself, and the minute the Master is away does what he pleases—abusing the help and throwing drunken parties for his friends—the Master is going to show up when he least expects it and make hash of him. He'll end up in the dump with the hypocrites, out in the cold shivering, teeth chattering." Matthew 24 __________________________________ Just-in-Time Education Consider that since 1950, the sum of all human knowledge has doubled. By the year 2020, that doubling will occur every 73 days. Just-in-Time education teaches us what we need, when we need it. Interestingly, it's the educational translation of the concept of "Just-in-Time Manufacturing" which has brought new levels of efficiency to the economy. The analogy: Why warehouse useless information in our brains? The downside of this - everything in life isn't about immediate application of learning. There is value in accumulated wisdom, and the most inspired problem solving comes from the application of ideas that may not be and usually aren't immediately related to the task at hand. Sir Thomas Elyot compiled a "dictionary of new and useful words in English for the benefit of [his] countrymen." His contributions include: "involve," "exactly", "articulate," "clemency," "democracy," "education," "loyalty," "society," and "mediocrity." Cosmopolitan Magazine, May, 1909, by Mr. Harold Bolce., Page 665. What is taught in schools: "The infidelity of the present age, under the seductive names of "science," "higher criticism," "evolution," and "modern liberalism," has permeated most of the theological colleges of the land, and to a large extent has made serious incursions into the Protestant churches" "The result of modern liberalism has been all too apparent in the work of the Protestant churches. Writers in the various communions have freely pointed out the lack of interest in the preaching of the gospel and the decline of missions in particular. One writer states the situation in this way: "Too largely I suspect our churches have become weak, uncertain of their purpose, lifeless, characterized by a deadly respectability and lacking a sense of mission. The average congregation is primarily concerned with raising enough money to pay the pastor and to keep the property in good repair. There is little a deep-seated conviction any longer that 'we have a story to tell to the nations.' The gospel of salvation and evangelism as respects the whole world has been diluted into a satisfactory and responsible ethic and the church is a society of good people who want the blessings of religion to attend them during their moments of exaltation or grief, but are quite absent themselves from the church and its divine mission so long as they can clothe themselves in the aura of respectability which attaches to church membership. Is this too caustic an indictment of the church. ...Missionary boards may persuade themselves that the falling off in their receipts is due to higher taxes and lowered incomes, but pastors who are in touch with donors recognize a definite resistance to making donations destined for extension of the gospel beyond our borders. But there is a redeeming feature in this picture. Degenerate as Babylon has become as a body, there are exceptions to the general rule; for God has still a people there, and she (the church) must be entitled to some regard on their account until all who will answer are called for her communion.
