On January 11, 2008, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released the final regulations for the implementation of the REAL ID Act, the flawed plan to create a national identity card system.
The REAL ID Act was signed into law in 2005 and forces states to standardize drivers' licenses in a way that turns them into a national ID. The Real ID Act will create grave
dangers to privacy and impose massive financial burdens without improving national security in the least.
Several congressional leaders, including Senate Judiciary

Further, the right to a fair trial is basic to any nation that supports the rule of law. Permitting short cuts in due process is never a good idea, and is particularly dangerous when the defendants are accused of heinous crimes and thus the temptation to rush to judgment is at its strongest. Finally, permitting the use of evidence obtained through torture not only encourages the use of torture, but permits into evidence information that due to the means of extraction has a very high probability of being inaccurate.
Abandonment of the rule of law is a common response to threats to society, but it has always proven the wrong response. America is stronger because of the rule of law, not despite of it. The second coming of the Son of man is to be the wonderful theme kept before the people. She did foresee great disasters of various kinds resulting in the loss of magnificent buildings and many lives in the large cities before Jesus' return. She spoke of demonic forces exercising their power in earthquakes, fires, and other calamities. She also warned that the time will come when defiant rejection of God's Spirit will result in the complete removal of His restraining power over such destructive elements in the earth. On one occasion, when in New York City, I was in the night season called upon to behold buildings rising story after story toward heaven. These buildings were warranted to be fireproof, and they were erected to glorify the owners and builders. Higher and still higher these buildings rose, and in them the most costly material was used. Those to whom these buildings belonged were not asking themselves: "How can we best glorify God?" The Lord was not in their thoughts. {9T 12.1} I thought: "Oh, that those who are thus investing their means could see their course as God sees it! They are piling up magnificent buildings, but how foolish in the sight of the Ruler of the universe is their planning and devising. They are not studying with all the powers of heart and mind how they may glorify God. They have lost sight of this, the first duty of man." {9T 12.2} As these lofty buildings went up, the owners rejoiced with ambitious pride that they had money to use in gratifying self and provoking the envy of their neighbors. Much of the money that they thus invested had been obtained through exaction, through grinding down the poor. They forgot that in heaven an account of every business transaction is kept; every unjust deal, every fraudulent act, is there recorded. The time is coming when in their fraud and insolence men will reach a point that the Lord will not permit them to pass, and they will learn that there is a limit to the forbearance of Jehovah. {9T 12.3}
I am instructed that when the Lord's time comes, should no change have taken place in the hearts of proud, ambitious human beings, men will find that the hand that had been strong to save will be strong to destroy. No earthly power can stay the hand of God. No material can be used in the erection of buildings that will preserve them from destruction when God's appointed time comes to send retribution on men for their disregard of His law and for their selfish ambition. {9T 13.2} ________________________________________________________________________________ Instruction on Health ● Butter. In 1870 Ellen White wrote that “from principle” she had discarded the use of meat, butter, mince pies, spices, and lard. In 1903 she stated that “as for myself, I have settled the butter question. I do not use it.” Health principles, for Ellen White, guided one’s plan of life in determining what the best choice should be under all circumstances. At times, in the absence of the best, we must settle for the good. The American Heart Association stated on May 13, 1994: “Because butter is rich in both saturated fat and cholesterol, it is potentially a highly atherogenic food [causing hardening of the arteries]. Most margarine is made from vegetable fat and provides no dietary cholesterol. The more liquid the margarine, i.e., tub or liquid forms, the less hydrogenated it is and the less trans fatty acids it contains. Therefore, though still high in fat, margarine is a preferable substitute for butter, and soft margarines are better than hard ones.” The American Cancer Society’s 1996 report emphasized that “diets high in foods from plant sources [vegetables, fruits, whole gains, beans] have been associated with a decreased risk, whereas diets high in fat and red meat have been associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer.” Further, “intake of animal fat, red meats, and dairy products has been found to be associated with an increase in the risk of prostate cancer.” · Meat and cancer germs: When Ellen White wrote that “tuberculosis, cancer, and other fatal diseases” are caused by “tuberculosis and cancerous germs,” the medical world scoffed, and continued to do so for many decades. But not today. In 1974, milk from leukemic cows was fed to six chimpanzees. Two died with leukemia at nine months of age, demonstrating that cancer viruses can be transmitted, even between different species. The chicken leukosis virus can be found in five to ten percent of all eggs. Ellen White’s instruction regarding dietary factors that may cause cancer. At the time she wrote, eminent men and women of science emphatically declared that cancer was not infectious, that there was no cancer germ. Decades later, in 1956, Wendell Stanley, a Ph.D. virologist and Nobel Prize winner at the University of California, asserted his belief that “viruses cause most or all human cancers.” He described viruses as “midget germs” that “lurk in the human body for years, even a lifetime; some cause trouble, some do not. . . . In some cases, the cancer viruses might become active by aging, dietary indiscretions, hormonal imbalance, chemicals, radiation, or a combination of these stresses, and malignancies may follow.” Much cancer research has been done since, lending support to Ellen White’s reference to “cancerous germs,”* [see note] but currently it is believed that there are other, more common, causes of cancer as well. Dr. Robert J. Huebner, chief of the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health at Bethesda, Maryland, reported in 1961 that “there isn’t the slightest doubt in our minds that human cancers are caused by viruses. To this extent, they are simply infectious diseases. Christ Our Righteousness Christ's righteousness is our only righteousness. We have no righteousness apart from Him. He is our only hope of salvation. Our works cannot justify us with God. And, as sinners, we cannot become sinless until Christ comes and removes our sinful flesh. As long as we are in this body, we will have to fight with our sinful, carnal nature. Only when we receive our glorified bodies can we claim any type of sinless perfection. All of our righteousness comes from Jesus Christ alone. He alone is worthy to be praised. He alone is perfect. He alone is sinless. He alone is perfection personified. He alone – period. No comma – period! He alone. Do you agree with that?

Worse When We Pray Why do things go worse when we pray? Well, when you decide to quit just being a “pew sitter” and a church member and start really seeking a deeper spiritual relationship with God, sometimes you will find out that things will actually go worse. It may be a surprising fact to discover that there are people other than ourselves, in fact, many people who have often wondered why it is that when we finally begin to pray, when we finally begin to read our Bible, we finally begin to have our devotions, things actually go worse for us, and we actually live worse when we start praying. There are some who think that as soon as they begin to read their Bible and pray their lives are instantly going to get better, they’re going to become more spiritual, more holy and they’re going to start living more holy lives. The reason for this is because they tend to base their Christian experience on their behavior. The behaviorist has a very difficult time with the fact that sometimes when you read your Bible and pray, your life actually gets worse and you actually start to sin more than less. But there’s a reason for this. |

With the language of Section 220 stricken from S. 1, the Senate passed the sweeping ethics reform bill by a vote of 96-2 a day after the measure appeared dead because of an impasse between parties regarding a line-item veto amendment. January 12, 2007 - Washington, DC – “The Traditional Values Coalition is deeply concerned about the grassroots lobbying requirements in Section 220 of S.1, Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act,” said TVC Chairman Louis P. Sheldon today. “Section 220 is a direct assault on the First Amendment and the right of citizens to freely petition their government for a redress of grievances!
“This legislation will place onerous reporting requirements on individuals and organizations that lobby our national leaders on issues of importance to them. And, it will impose draconian fines – including potential criminal penalties – for failure to obey these new lobby restrictions.”
Pastor Sheldon points out that Section 220 will target any organization with more than 500 supporters or if a communication reaches 500 or more individuals. Those affected include every blogger, every church, every non-profit or any group that uses direct mail, telephone calls, newspaper or print ads, paid organizers, radio and TV ads and Internet communications.
“The reporting requirements and penalties in Section 220 will place incredible financial and time burdens on grassroots groups as well as potential fines – thus making it less likely that these groups risk communicating with their members on important issues. This cleverly-written section doesn’t directly assault free speech, but it creates a climate of fear that chills free speech,” said Rev. Sheldon. “Will a small grassroots group speak out if it fears being fined for failing to file the correct reports to Congress? This legislation is a subversion of our First Amendment rights.”
Pastor Sheldon notes that this will have a serious impact on pastors! “A pastor, for example, who uses the church bulletin to oppose an anti-Christian bill, will be considered a lobbyist and must register his church as a lobbying firm! This is unacceptable!
“The curious thing about this legislation is that it exempts labor unions, corporations and even foreign companies from these reporting requirements. Yet, these are the entities that are most likely to engage in unethical lobbying activities – not small grassroots groups,” said Rev. Sheldon.
“TVC is calling on the U.S. Senate to support the Bennett amendment to remove the grassroots provisions from S. 1. This section clearly tramples on our First Amendment rights to free speech and the right of every citizen to petition his government!

WASHINGTON (BP)--By a vote of 55-43, the Senate approved an amendment Jan. 18, 2007 that struck the controversial section of an ethics reform bill that would have threatened churches and pro-family groups with fines if they failed to register their actions with the government when informing people on moral issues. “We’re delighted that members of the Senate understood the grave nature of putting severe restrictions on the free speech of churches and non-profit organizations,” Sekulow said in a Jan. 19, 2007 news release. “While the troubling language was removed from the Senate measure, we’re still deeply concerned that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others will attempt to push through these dangerous restrictions in the House.
"This legislation says that grassroots lobbying is defined as members of the general public communicating with their congressmen or encouraging others to do the same,"
Sen. Robert Bennett, R.-Utah, said of the original bill while promoting the amendment on the Senate floor. "I thought that's what we were all supposed to do. I was taught in civics class in high school that everyone had the right to do that without being forced to register and report all of their connections if somebody pays for it. "Sekulow explained in a post on the ACLJ website that the House could take up such legislation as early as the week of Jan. 22, 2007 and indications are that Pelosi will insert the grassroots lobbying legislation provision into the House's bill on lobbying reform. "Once passed, it will require a conference committee between the House and the Senate," Sekulow wrote. "We are not out of the woods yet on this important matter. Momentum continues to build, and we need to now turn our efforts to the United States House of Representatives."
