Do not spurn the gifts and utterances of the prophets [do not
deprecate prophetic revelations nor despise inspired instruction or
exhortation or warnings]. But test and prove all things [until
you can recognize] what is good; [to that] hold fast. 1
Thessalonians 5:20-21
It
is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just
make sure that you don't use this freedom as an excuse to do
whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom.
Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that's
how freedom grows. For everything we know about God's Word is
summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love
yourself. That's an act of true freedom. If you bite and ravage
each other, watch out—in no time at all you will be annihilating
each other, and where will your precious freedom be then?

What is the Gutenberg Bible?
Before Gutenberg, every book had to be copied by hand.
Now it was possible to speed up the process without sacrificing quality. We know for certain about this first printed Bible from a letter of 12 March 1455. On that day Enea Silvio Piccolomini, later Pope Pius II, reported that in Frankfurt, the year before, a marvellous man had been promoting the Bible. Piccolomini had seen parts of it and it had such neat lettering that one could read it without glasses.
Gutenberg's invention did not make him rich, but it laid the foundation for the commercial mass production of books. The success of printing meant that books soon became cheaper, and ever wider parts of the population could afford them. More than ever before, it enabled people to follow debates and take part in discussions of matters that concerned them. As a consequence, the printed book also led to more stringent attempts at censorship. This was a sign that it was felt by those in authority to be dangerous and challenging to their position.
The Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution Series enters the fascinating world of animals to reveal sophisticated and complex designs that shake the traditional foundations of evolutionary theory.
Why is the Internet Archive collecting sites from the Internet? What makes the information useful?
Most societies place importance on preserving artifacts of their culture and heritage. Without such artifacts, civilization has no memory and no mechanism to learn from its successes and failures. Our culture now produces more and more artifacts in digital form. The Archive's mission is to help preserve those artifacts and create an Internet library for researchers, historians, and scholars. The Archive collaborates with institutions including the
Library of Congress and the
Smithsonian.
A Response to the Mounting Criticism of Ellen White
A new book answers the mounting criticism of Ellen White. On the web one can find over 40,000 pages, mostly by former Adventists, attacking the inspiration and integrity of Ellen White. Part of the problem has been the failure of our Adventist church to help our members better understand the limitations of prophets in general and of Ellen White in particular. Providentially, this issue has been addressed in a masterful way by Prof. Graeme Bradford, in a newly released bookProphets Are Human, published by Signs Publishing House (2004) and distributed in the USA by Pacific Press. The book has been favorably reviewed by numerous Adventist church leaders and scholars.
Prof. Bradford has accepted the invitation to share the highlights of his 20 years of research on Ellen White in a couple of essays to be posted in our pastoral newsletter in a couple of months. You should find his material a much-needed resource to deal with both critics and defenders of Ellen White. Bradford has done a superb job in dealing with questions related to Ellen White and her inspiration, that for too long have gone unanswered.
"Dr. Bradford has provided the church with a much-needed resource. While the reader will find the book confronting at times and very likely will not agree with everything it contains, the author is to be commended for bringing long-standing and difficult issues out into the open and addressing them in a manner that is not only credible but congruent with Scripture. In short, it is a stimulating and provocative read for the intelligent Christian."

Biblical Perspective is the publishing name chosen by
Dr. Samuele Bacchiocchi, because it fittingly expresses the objective of his research, namely, to examine fundamental Christian beliefs and practices from a Biblical perspective. The concern of the author is to help Christians understand and experience more fully those vital Biblical truths that God has revealed for our physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
At a time when many Christians are influenced more by societal trends than by Biblical teachings, the author provides a refreshing Biblical perspective on important Christian beliefs and practices. Each of the 16 books authored by Dr. Bacchiocchi, represents months or even years of painstaking research into vital Biblical truths. You will find that a thoughtful reading of these books will change your life for the better by offering you a refreshing Biblical perspective on vital areas of Christian living.

A major film, called End Of The Spear,
will be launched
January 20, 2006.
I believe God will use it in a big way.
It depicts the effects of the grace of God in very powerful ways.
The story begins in 1956, when five Christian missionaries
(Nate Saint, Jim Elliot, Roger Youderian, Pete Fleming and Ed McCully) gave their lives in an Ecuadorian jungle, attempting to bring the gospel to the Waodani stone age people. At that time they were the most violent tribe on Earth
-- and yet they became the most loving and peaceful! /fontfamily>
The missionaries made friendly contact, but something went terribly wrong. The Waodani speared them to death. A tragedy? Yes, but God turns everything to good, for the blessing of many and for His glory, and this was no exception. /fontfamily> God used this tragedy to motivate more people to become missionaries than any other event in modern history -- perhaps ever. He also used two women to complete the work of the five martyred missionaries, bringing the Waodani to himself.
So the deaths of those five men did more to advance the
kingdom of God than their lives ever could.
A root cause is an initiating cause of a causal chain which leads to an outcome or effect of interest. Commonly, root cause is used to describe the depth in the causal chain where an intervention could reasonably be implemented to change performance and prevent an undesirable outcome.
